In detail

What each job covers

Boiler Repair

Visual inspection of the boiler, testing for heat, pressure and water flow. Fault diagnosis. Repair or replacement of faulty parts such as thermostats, pumps, valves or seals.

When you need it. Boiler won't ignite, is leaking water, pressure keeps dropping, radiators stay cold, or heating cuts out after a few minutes.

Before you get in touch. Write down any error codes showing on the boiler display. Note when it last worked properly.

Emergency Leaks

Emergency call-out to locate the source of the leak. Temporary stop-tap operation if needed. Repair of the damaged section or joint. Water cleanup guidance.

When you need it. You spot water dripping from pipes, pooling under sinks, or coming from ceiling cracks during or after heavy use.

Before you get in touch. Turn off the main stop-tap if safe to do so. Identify where water is coming from. Note any sounds or smells.

Drain Unblocking

Inspection of blockage location using camera if needed. Mechanical clearance with plunger or auger. Flushing and testing flow. Advice on prevention.

When you need it. Water drains slowly from sinks, baths or showers. Toilet won't flush. Gurgling sounds from pipes or drains.

Before you get in touch. Remove surface debris from the drain. Note which outlets are affected. Try a plunger first if safe.

Central Heating

Installation of boiler, pump, pipes, radiators and controls. Commissioning and system balancing. Annual servicing, repairs to faulty components, and radiator bleeding.

When you need it. Cold radiators, uneven heating room to room, boiler breakdowns, or planning a new heating system.

Before you get in touch. Know your current boiler model if servicing. Have a rough room layout and list of any cold spots.

Bathroom Fitting

Survey and measurement of space. Removal of old suite. Pipework, waste and water supply connection. Installation of toilet, basin, bath or shower. Tiling and grouting.

When you need it. Planning a bathroom refresh, suite is cracked or stained, waste leaks, or taps are beyond repair.

Before you get in touch. Take photos of your bathroom. Measure pipe positions if known. List which items you're replacing or keeping.

General Plumbing

Repair or replacement of taps, ball valves, overflow pipes, isolation valves and copper or plastic supply lines. Fixing drips, re-seating valves and renewing washers.

When you need it. Taps drip or won't shut off, water fills cistern slowly, pipes rattle or bang, or you spot small leaks.

Before you get in touch. Turn off water if there's a leak. Note which tap or pipe is faulty. Check if it's mains or tank-fed.

Common questions

General guidance about plumbers in the UK, not specific to any one business.

What's the difference between a plumber and a heating engineer?

Plumbers install and repair water supply, waste pipes and taps. Heating engineers work on boilers, central heating systems and radiators. Some are qualified in both trades. Always check the engineer is competent for the specific job.

Can a plumber work on a gas boiler?

Only a Gas Safe registered engineer may legally install, repair or service a gas boiler. Many plumbers are also Gas Safe registered, but it's a separate legal requirement. Always ask to see the registration certificate.

Why does my boiler lose pressure?

Pressure drops when there's a small leak in pipes, radiators or joints, or when air enters the system. A leak might be inside the boiler and invisible at first. Pressure that drops repeatedly points to a persistent fault needing professional diagnosis.

How often should a boiler be serviced?

An annual service is standard for most boilers, typically before the heating season starts in autumn. It checks for safe operation, cleans components and catches wear early. Regular servicing also helps maintain efficiency and can extend the boiler's life.

What should I do if I have a pipe burst?

Turn off the main stop-tap immediately to stop the flow. Drain the system if time allows by running taps. Mop up water to prevent damage. Call a plumber urgently. They'll locate and repair the damaged section, usually by cutting out the burst and joining new pipe in.

Why are my radiators cold at the top?

Air trapped in the radiator stops hot water circulating. Bleed the radiator by opening the small vent screw at the top until water drips out, then close it. If all radiators have the same problem, the heating system may need balancing by adjusting valve settings.
